CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery announced on Wednesday they had acquired 18-year-old Ghanaian forward Jeffrey Otoo on loan from their MLS partner Atlanta United FC. Otoo will remain with the Battery for the remainder of the 2016 USL season.

Otoo will be the second player sent on loan with the Battery this season from Atlanta, following goalkeeper Alex Tambakis, who joined Charleston this preseason. Atoo will join up with the Battery upon his arrival in the United States.

“Jeffrey is a talented young player who we identified through our international scouting network,” said Atlanta technical director Carlos Bocanegra. “Having him signed with us at this time enables him to play with Charleston Battery and get familiar with U.S. soccer ahead of our inaugural season in 2017.”

The 5-foot-9 Otoo comes to Atlanta from Charity Stars FC, located in Accra, Ghana where he scored 21 goals in 13 games since last December. Naturally left-footed, Otoo is a high-energy performer off the ball.

“We really like Jeffrey’s natural technical ability and unselfish style of play,” said Bocanegra. “We’re excited to watch him develop.”
