MELBOURNE, Fla. – Last October, Orlando City B’s Pierre Da Silva was part of the same United States’ squad that included current U.S. National Team phenom Christian Pulisic at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile.

On Saturday night, the surroundings were a little more austere than those in which Pulisic became the youngest goal-scorer in U.S. Men’s National Team history, but Da Silva’s standout performance helped OCB claim a second consecutive against strong USL opposition as it rallied back for a 2-1 win at the Titan Soccer Complex.

“It’s great, I feel amazing scoring at home, first goal as a professional player,” said Da Silva following the game.

Orlando had gone behind to the Independence, who themselves entered on a six-game undefeated streak, as Brian Brown found the net after losing his marker in the left side of the penalty area. Eight minutes into the second half, however, Da Silva scored from close to the same spot after a good piece of interplay with fellow young standout Richie Laryea.

“I just remember getting the ball from Tony Rocha, and I saw Richie Laryea open, so I played a 1-2 with him in-between two players and I shot back post,” Da Silva said.

Orlando Coach Anthony Pulis said he was “delighted” for Da Silva to find the net, and he was likely even happier when the 17-year-old put in an inch-perfect delivery for Craig Nitti to head home what proved to be the winner with 19 minutes to go. After a first half that saw the Independence hold the upper hand for much of the 45 minutes, Pulis was also pleased with the response his side showed to going down.

“I thought we had a 30-minute spell in the first half where everybody was five yards off the pace,” Pulis said. “We started off well, the first five, 10 minutes of the half we looked bright, and the last five minutes we looked bright, but that little period in the middle of the half we weren’t pleased with, so we made a couple of changes at halftime, tweaked a couple of things tactically, and the response second half was fantastic.”

At the forefront was Da Silva, who came off to a good reception with 14 minutes to go as Orlando looked to batten down defensively to earn a second consecutive impressive win on home turf. After defeating the 2015 USL champion Rochester Rhinos a week ago, another big test comes on Saturday as Eastern Conference leaders Louisville City FC comes to visit.

With Orlando now sitting in the eighth and final playoff position ahead going into Week 11, the side appears to be finding the right rhythm that could make it a playoff contender at the end of the season. Pulis, though, certainly isn’t thinking in those terms yet.

“It’s a cliché, but it’s so true, we take one game at a time, that’s all we ever do,” said Pulis. “We’ll analyze this game, we’ll break it down, we’ll debrief the guys when they get back in early next week, and then we’ll plan and prepare for the game next Sunday against Louisville, which is going to be a very tough game.”
