Republic FC standout named in squad to face Turkey in exhibition

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC standout Emrah Klimenta has been called into the Montenegro National Team squad that will face Turkey in an international exhibition on May 29. Klimenta is the first Republic FC player to be selected to a full national team squad in the club’s history.

“This is a really proud moment for Emrah and his family,” said Republic FC Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. “It could not happen to a nicer lad.  He is brilliant to work with, he works very hard and absolutely deserves this opportunity with his national team. Myself, the players and everybody else at the club wish him all the best.”

Klimenta has been a member of Republic FC since the club first took to the field in the USL, and was a key part of the team as it won the 2014 USL Championship at the end of its inaugural season. Klimanta is the club’s all-time leader in USL minutes (5,183) and USL appearances (60). He also holds the club records for most consecutive USL (37) and all competition (33) appearances and all competition starts (23).

The 25-year-old will head to camp on Friday, with the game against Turkey set to be played in Antalya, Turkey on Sunday, May 29.
