PITTSBURGH – The New York Red Bulls II rebounded from their first defeat of the season with a 3-1 win against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday night at Highmark Stadium. The Riverhounds (0-3-3, 3pts) took an early lead through Romeo Parkes, but the Red Bulls II (4-1-2, 14pts) hit back two minutes later through Anatole Abang, and then got two goals in the second half from Stefano Bonomo and Derrick Etienne Jr. after good piece of wide play to earn all three points.

Scoring:
10’ – PGH – Romeo Parkes
12’ – NY – Anatole Abang (Justin Bilyeu)
72’ – NY – Stefano Bonomo (Justin Bilyeu)
83’ – NY – Derrick Etienne Jr. (Junior Flemmings)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. New York may be a young squad, but the Red Bulls II have the resiliency of a more veteran squad than you’d think. The quick response to conceding a poor opening goal was impressive, as was the persistence the side showed to take a valuable three points on the road.

  • 2. If any team wants to replicate the Charlotte Independence’s victory against the Red Bulls II – their lone setback this season – it would behoove them to get and hold the lead early. New York hasn’t relinquished a lead when it has gone ahead this season, and hasn’t conceded a goal in the second half this season, two very impressive feats for Coach John Wolyniec’s side.

  • 3. Romeo Parkes' fifth consecutive game with a goal was set to provide a silver lining for the Riverhounds on another disappointing night, but that disappeared after his reaction to being sent off late in the game. It should come as no surprise when Parkes is suspended for multiple games after lashing out at Karl Ouimette as both players left the field after being dismissed by the referee late on.

Justin Bilyeu, New York Red Bulls II – The right back provided strong width throughout the game for the Red Bulls II, and was rewarded with a pair of assists to help the side win for a fourth time this season.
