TULSA, Okla. – The Portland Timbers 2 took their second win in the past three games as goals by Khalrton Belmar and Andre Lewis earned a 2-0 victory against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Saturday night at ONEOK Field.

Both sides looked to push the tempo early on, and T2 almost took the lead in the ninth minute after Belmar was brought down just outside the penalty area. Neco Brett floated in a good delivery 10 yards from goal, but Brett Richards’ header went wide of the right post.

The Roughnecks threatened eight minutes later as a long throw-in by David Abidor from the right was flicked on by Sammy Ochoa to the top of the penalty area, but Iarhflaith Davoren wasn’t able to provide a finish as the ball skipped away out of his reach, allowing Portland’s Kendall McIntosh to collect.

Tulsa had another chance moments later when Taylor Morgan broke in behind the defense in the right channel, and was brought down just outside the penalty area by McIntosh, who was shown a yellow card. The free kick by Kaleemullah clipped the top of the wall, and was easily gathered by McIntosh.

T2 took the lead in the 23rd minute as Belmar drove across the top of the penalty area from the right, and sent a pass into Dylan Damraoui. A defensive challenge sent the ball back toward Belmar, and his first-time finish found the right corner of the net for Belmar’s second goal of the season.

Three minutes later, Portland struck again. Belmar again played a role as he held up possession in the penalty area, and laid a pass back to Lewis, who fired an outstanding shot into the top-right corner of the net that left Tulsa goalkeeper Alex Mangels helpless.

The Roughnecks pushed to get back into the game in the second half, and had a big opportunity just before the hour-mark when Brady Ballew got in behind the T2 defense as he moved toward the right side of the penalty area, but McIntosh closed down well and palmed the ball away to safety.

Davoren had a chance as well as Ochoa’s cross skipped through the penalty area in the 66th minute, but skied his effort well over the crossbar as the ball arrived behind him. Portland’s Villyan Bijev had a similar chance four minutes later, but his open volley went high as the Roughnecks’ deficit remained just two.

Tulsa threw greater numbers forward as the game entered the final 15 minutes, and Ochoa saw a header loop over the crossbar from six yards after Portland was unable to properly clear a corner kick. The goal never arrived, however, as Tulsa was held scoreless for a third consecutive contest.
