Steel look to build, Battery aim to bounce back on Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bethlehem Steel FC hosts the Charleston Battery on Sunday afternoon looking to build on an impressive victory last Sunday, while the visitors will be aiming to bounce back from their first defeat of the season. Kickoff at Goodman Stadium is set for 3 p.m. ET.

Bethlehem Steel FC news and notes

  • Current record: 2-2-0, 6 points
  • The Steel snapped a two-game losing streak last Sunday as Eric Ayuk recorded a goal and assist in a 2-1 victory against the Richmond Kickers.
  • Ayuk was named to the USL Team of the Week on Tuesday for his performance, as he also set up Derrick Jones for his first professional goal.
  • The Steel will have James Chambers available for Sunday’s game after serving a one-game suspension for a red card against FC Cincinnati.
  • Only captain Ryan Richter among outfield players has played every minute of the season so far for the Steel.

Charleston Battery news and notes

  • Current record: 2-1-1, 7 points
  • The Battery suffered a 3-2 defeat against the Charlotte Independence last Saturday as their undefeated start to the season came to an end.
  • Charleston tried to battle back after going down by three goals in the second half, but goals by Romario Williams and Justin Portillo weren’t enough as the rally fell short
  • Williams has recorded three goals in four games for the Battery this season, on loan from the Montreal Impact.
  • Zach Prince is unavailable for Sunday’s game after being handed a two-game suspension for his red card against the Independence.
