TAMPA, Fla. – After another busy weekend of action, here are 11 things we learned from Week 4 in the USL:

1. CINCINNATI HITS RECORD HIGH: FC Cincinnati became the latest USL club to gather attention on the national stage as it set a USL regular-season record with 20,497 fans at Nippert Stadium on Saturday night. Just as Sacramento moved into the MLS conversation two years ago with outstanding attendance at Hughes Stadium to start its inaugural campaign, Cincinnati now has everyone’s attention.

2. LOUISVILLE SPOILS THE SHOW: Unfortunately for the host, Louisville City FC and Chandler Hoffman arrived and slightly spoiled the party in Cincinnati. Hoffman’s first-half hat trick – which came in just 18 minutes – saw Louisville build on its impressive attacking display against Orlando a week ago, and moved James O’Connor’s side to the top of the Eastern Conference.

3. SILVER LINING: Despite the defeat, Cincinnati shouldn’t feel too bad about its defeat. After all, the Harrisburg City Islanders spoiled Sacramento Republic FC’s coming-out party two seasons ago, and that seemed to turn out OK in the end. With the talent within the club, Cincinnati should be expected to rebound strongly in the upcoming weeks.

4. UPSIDE DOWN: Things got a bit topsy-turvy across the league this weekend, as some undefeated records came to a surprising end at the hands of first-time winners. Sacramento, Colorado Springs, Real Monarchs SLC, Richmond and Charleston all got upended for the first time, leaving things interestingly poised at the top of each conference.

5. HAMILTON!: On paper, Portland Timbers 2 goalkeeper Wade Hamilton hadn’t been having the best time early in his rookie season, but those that had seen a few of the performances he’d put in knew how well he’d been playing despite Portland’s tough start. On Sunday, he got help from a couple of goal-line clearances in his first professional shutout, but with the way he’s been playing for T2 so far this season, he earned his luck in a win against Sacramento.

6. HAMMERING IT HOME: Wilmington Hammerheads FC matched its home win total from 2015 on Sunday with a 2-0 win against FC Montreal that saw Matthew Barnes-Homer cap a Man of the Match performance with his first goal for the club. The Hammerheads are still growing, but this Friday’s game with the New York Red Bulls II should be a great litmus test after some solid early-season performances have put them back in contention in the Eastern Conference.

7. BLUES PICKING UP STEAM: The final score might not have indicated it, but Saturday night’s west-coast game between Orange County Blues FC and San Antonio FC was a highly entertaining one. In the end, Didier Crettenand’s second goal in as many games proved the difference in a 1-0 win as the Blues took their first win of the season. It also illustrated that the new cast of characters at Anteater Stadium might have found the chemistry that could start a solid run of form, starting on Wednesday against Portland.

8. AYUK PIVOTS FOR STEEL: As one of the players on loan from the Philadelphia Union to Bethlehem Steel FC, the expectation is that Eric Ayuk should be one of the team’s best players. His deployment as a No. 10 on Sunday against Richmond by Coach Brendan Burke definitely appeared to bring out the best in the Cameroonian, and also allowed the Steel to remain on the front foot even as they were looking to close out an impressive 2-1 victory with Ayuk’s ability to act as a pivot for possession playing a key role.

9. SO CLOSE FOR TORONTO: Toronto FC II almost broke the hex the Pittsburgh Riverhounds had held over it in 2015 on Sunday, only for a last-minute equalizer by Conor Branson to steal a point for the visitors at a sold-out Ontario Soccer Centre. Despite the late disappointment, this year’s TFC II side appears to have learned a lot from its inaugural season, and led by Raheem Edwards will be a tough proposition for anyone it faces this year.

10. SHUTDOWN SELLOUT: Saint Louis FC packed them into World Wide Technology Soccer Park on Saturday night, with a sellout crowd of 5,531 in attendance. Unfortunately for the fans, an entertaining game ended up being ruled by the goalkeepers, as STLFC’s Mark Pais and the Roughnecks’ Alex Mangels were both at the top of their games as the game ended in a scoreless draw.

11. WELCOME BOOST: With the turnover the club sees each season in personnel, it can take some games for the Harrisburg City Islanders to find their way, but Saturday’s 1-0 win against Orlando City B will have been a welcome boost to Bill Becher’s side ahead of its home opener on Friday. Standing in its way? Louisville City FC, providing a massive test that could prove telling as to what this season might hold in Harrisburg.
