WFC2 hosts home opener with both clubs perfect through two games

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Two teams that have taken two wins from their first two games will square off on Sunday as Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 hosts Sacramento Republic FC in its home opener. Kickoff at Thunderbird Stadium is set for 3 p.m. PT.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 news and notes

  • Current record: 2-0-0, 6 points
  • WFC2 took victory on the road in each of its first two contests, including a 3-1 win against the Portland Timbers 2 last Saturday night.
  • Daniel Haber scored twice in the victory against T2, and was named to the USL Team of the Week this past Tuesday.
  • Haber is tied for the team-lead for goals with Kyle Grieg, with Vancouver’s new captain having struck in each of the club’s first two contests.
  • WFC2 played to a 1-1 draw in its home opener a season ago, as it squared off with Canadian rival Toronto FC II.

Sacramento Republic FC news and notes

  • Current record: 2-0-0, 6 points
  • Sacramento has taken a pair of 1-0 victories to start the season, as it got a late goal from Cameron Iwasa to win its home opener against Arizona United SC last Saturday at Bonney Field.
  • Republic FC’s defense has been almost watertight to start the season, with the team having only allowed one shot on goal in two games.
  • Sacramento has taken 14 road wins – including its victory against Seattle in Week 1 – since joining the USL for the 2014 season.
  • Sunday’s game is the first of two contests against Cascadia opposition for Republic FC, which visits the Portland Timbers 2 next Sunday.
