Bustos, Tabla and Ucello lead 12 selections in the 19-player squad

A dozen of the USL’s top young Canadian players have been called up to Canada’s U20 National Team that will take on England in an international exhibition on Sunday, March 27 in Doncaster, England. Leading the group are Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2’s Marco Bustos, FC Montreal’s Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla and Toronto FC II’s Luca Uccello.

“This is an additional opportunity to bring together our exceptional young players,” said Rob Gale, Canada Soccer's Men's National U-20 Coach. “We selected players from a range of different ages so that we could benefit this group with a key development opportunity through a high-level opposition.”

Bustos led WFC2 with seven goals and two assists last season, as the attacking midfielder was twice named to the USL Team of the Week. He is joined in the squad by goalkeeper Marco Carducci and Kadin Chung, both of whom played for WFC2 a season ago, and new signing Alphonso Davies, who last month became the youngest signing in USL history at the age of 15.

FC Montreal also had a quartet of players selected, led by former Canadian U17 Player of the Year Tabla, who signed with the club this offseason. Goalkeeper James Pantemis, defender Thomas Meilleur-Giguere and midfielder Marco-Leonel Dominguez were also named in the squad.

Toronto FC II’s Uccello and Liam Fraser were both named as well, with Uccello coming off a season that saw him make 22 appearances for TFC II and log almost 1,500 minutes of action. Fraser, who signed professionally with the club this season, appeared in 10 games as an Academy signing last season, and the squad also includes Jordan Hamilton, who had three goals for TFC II a season ago.

Also selected to the squad is Duwayne Ewart, who is currently in training camp with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
