CARSON, Calif. – After earning three consecutive USL All-League selections, and captaining the LA Galaxy II to the USL’s Western Conference Championship a season ago, Daniel Steres made his debut in MLS on Sunday night.

The 25-year-old Burbank, Calif. native definitely made a big first impression, as his second-half goal keyed a 4-1 comeback victory for the Galaxy against D.C. United at StubHub Center.

“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” Steres said. “We’ve got some great players and great coaches here and they gave me confidence so I was just excited to get out there.”

After going into the halftime break trailing 1-0, the Galaxy pushed strongly for an equalizer early in the second half. It arrived nine minutes in, as Steres drove home a header from the top of the six-yard area from Mike Magee’s perfectly delivered corner kick.

“[Magee] put in a really good ball; it was in a really good spot,” Steres said. “Gyasi [Zardes] kind of got a pick for me and I just found some space, saw the ball the last second and put it in. I got to give Gyasi a lot of credit. We’ve worked on a couple plays like that and he did a good job giving me a pick.”

Magee, who played on loan with Saint Louis FC last season while recovering from injury with the Chicago Fire, claimed the Man of the Match honors as he added a pair of goals in his return to Los Angeles after an offseason move. The former MLS Most Valuable Player clipped home a fine chip for what proved to be the game-winner in the 64th minute, drew a penalty kick that was converted by Robbie Keane with seven minutes to go, and then put the final cherry on top of the victory with a flicked header from a free kick by Steven Gerrard.

“It feels a little bit surreal,” Magee said. “I didn’t know what to do after I scored. Literally I haven’t scored in years. It felt weird and a little uncomfortable with people jumping at me. Once the game ended it felt weird but incredible. I’m still obviously scrambling for words right now so you can imagine what’s going through my mind.”

While Magee has tasted victory in MLS many times before, for Steres, it’s a feeling he could definitely get used to.

“Definitely excited,” Steres said. “It feels great and I’ve been waiting for this for a while, so it feels really good to get out of here with a win.”
