WILMINGTON, N.C. – Wilmington Hammerheads FC has announced the signing of English forward Matthew Barnes-Homer for the 2016 USL season.

"I'm excited to become a part of the Wilmington Hammerheads and take on this new challenge,” said Barnes-Homer. “I can’t wait to get going, score lots of goals, and help the team win a league title.”

Barnes-Homer arrives in Wilmington after most recently playing for Farnborough F.C. in his home country. The veteran forward has played extensively in England and Europe, including stints with Kiddeminster Harriers, where he recorded 34 goals in 98 contests, and Luton Town.

More recently, Barnes-Homer helped Macclesfield Town reach the fourth round of the F.A. Cup in 2013 as his two goals against Cardiff City earned the club a 2-1 victory.

“Matthew brings a wealth of experience and has a goal-scoring record second to none,” said Head Coach Mark Briggs. “I believe he will be a huge asset and score a lot of goals at this level.”

The Hammerheads will kick off the 2016 USL regular season on Saturday, March 26 against Orlando City B. The club’s home opener is set for Friday, April 1 against the Richmond Kickers at Legion Stadium.
