CARSON, Calif. - LA Galaxy II (13-11-3, 42pts) took a hit in their aspirations for a home playoff game as they fell to 1-0 to the Portland Timbers 2 at StubHub Center’s Track and Field Stadium on Wednesday night. With just one game remaining in the regular season, Los Dos will look to improve their standing in the Western Conference heading into the USL Playoffs as their final game of the regular season.

Los Dos will travel to face Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC this Saturday night. Colorado Springs is currently in second place in the Western Conference. The match will take place at 6 p.m. PT and be streamed live on www.lagalaxy.com.

Portland opened the scoring shortly into the second half off a Los Dos turnover near midfield. Rundell Winchester got on the end of a loose ball and raced towards the Galaxy II goal. Oscar Sorto recovered in time to contest the shot, but his deflection got past goalkeeper Brian Rowe to give the visitors the lead.

Los Dos pressed in the second half to find an equalizer as forwards Ariel Lassiter and Travis Bowen were substituted on to boost the offense.

The best chance for Galaxy II came with just seconds remaining in the match as the hosts came within inches from leveling the score. Midfielder Alejandro Covarrubias crossed in a ball inside the penalty area as Bowen fired a shot on target to force a diving save from T2 goalkeeper Justin Luthy. The saved bounced in the path of Joe Franco, but his shot ricocheted off Luthy and Lassiter before going wide of the net for a goal kick.

The match Wednesday marked the second game between LA Galaxy II and Portland Timbers 2 this year, with Galaxy II now 1-1-0 against their Western Conference foes. Los Dos won the first contest 1-0 on July 26 behind a Jack McBean game winner.
