USL Second Division 2005 All-League Teams announced Only five players earn repeat honors

TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL Second Division All-League Teams as voted on by the league’s coaches and general managers for the 2005 regular season, honoring 22 of the best players in the league. Finalists Charlotte and Western Mass saw five and two players, respectively, honored.
Charlotte Eagles
The returning finalist Eagles saw four players, one at each position, honored on the First Team with Chris McClellan, Josh Rife, Dustin Swinehart and Jacob Coggins. Midfielder Ishmael Mintah was a Second Team selection. Charlotte had the most players honored with five. Rife, Swinehart and Coggins all return as All-League selections from last year. Swinehart was also a USL First Division All-League selection in 2001.
Cincinnati Kings
The expansion Cincinnati Kings had three players honored. Defender Derek Smith was named to the First Team with fellow back Tiest Sondaal and midfielder Jaack Cummings on the Second Team. Sondaal was an All-League selection last season with Pittsburgh.
Harrisburg City Islanders
The second-year squad had the second-most honorees with two on each All-League Team. Defender Shane Crawford and forward Sumed Ibrahim were named to the First Team with midfielder David Schofield and forward Chad Severs on the Second Team.
Long Island Rough Riders
Three players were honored from the Rough Riders. Defender Gary Sullivan was named to the First Team with goalkeeper Paul Grafer and midfielder Matt Chulis on the Second Team.
New Hampshire Phantoms
Defender Brandon Curran was New Hampshire’s lone honoree as a member of the All-League Second Team.
Pittsburgh Riverhounds
The lone All-League player selected from the Riverhounds was Nathan Salsi, who was named as a defender on the Second Team.
Western Mass Pioneers
Midfielder Everson Maciel and forward Rigels Qosa were named to the All-League First Team for the Pioneers. Maciel was also honored last season.
Wilmington Hammerheads
Three players from the Hammerheads were honored with midfielder Derek Popovich on the First Team and forwards James Gledhill and Ryan Miller on the Second Team.
The Defender of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and Most Valuable Player honors will be announced Friday evening at the championship banquet.
The Eagles will play the Western Mass Pioneers Saturday, August 27, for the USL Second Division Championship. The game will be played at 7:30 pm and be televised on Fox Soccer Channel at 11:00 pm that night. It is Charlotte's fifth appearance in the final (1996, 1997, 2000, 2004) with a championship in 2000. It is the Pioneers's second appearance in the final, having won the title in 1999.
