Battery sign Deering
Jackson re-signs for third campaign

CHARLESTON, SC -- The Charleston Battery has agreed to terms with former US National Team midfielder Chad Deering. Midfielder Kevin Jackson has also re-signed with the Battery.

A six year-veteran of Major League Soccer, Deering comes to the Charleston Battery after spending the 2004 season playing indoor with the Dallas Sidekicks and with the DFW Tornados of the PDL.

Deering played six seasons in Major League Soccer, all with the Dallas Burn. He also enjoyed eight years in Germany. Deering has played 18 times for the US Men's National Team, scoring one goal with one assist. 

Jackson spent the last two season's with Charleston and was a member of the 2003 USL First Division Championship winning team.

Deering, 6-2, 175llb, 34, began his pro-career in 1991 with Werder Bremen of the German Bundesliga. After three years with Werder Bremen's reserve team, Deering transferred to FC Schalke 04 then to VFL Wolfsburg helping to gain them their first-ever promotion to the Bundesliga. Deering played 15 games in the German Bundesliga for VFL Wolfsburg in the 1997-98 season alongside international teammate Claudio Reyna.

In 1998 Deering signed with Dallas Burn of Major League Soccer. His 163 game MLS career included five consecutive playoff appearances (1998 & 2002) and All-Star appearances in 2001and 2002. Deering scored 13 regular season goals with Dallas and three playoff goals. Deering logged over 13,000 minutes of playing time during his six-year stint with the Burn.

Deering's National Team highlights include a 1998 World Cup appearance versus Germany. He debuted for the National Team October 13, 1993 versus Germany and scored his lone goal March 14, 1998 versus Paraguay.

A native of Plano, TX, Deering played two-seasons at Indiana University before leaving for Germany in 1991 at age 20.

Kevin Jackson
Midfielder Kevin Jackson returns in 2005 for his third season with the Charleston Battery. Jackson has played a total of 37 games with the Battery scoring two goals and adding four assists. Jackson was originally drafted by MLS's Chicago Fire in 2000 but played his first two professional seasons with the A-League's Hershey Wildcats.

The Pittsgrove, NJ native was a four-year starter at Lehigh University where he was a three year regional All-American. Lehigh progressed to the NCAA tournament in Jackson's senior year where they lost to Virginia in the first round. Jackson graduated with a degree in political science.
