TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced today the A-League Team of the Week for Week 19 of the season, honoring Milwaukee’s Greg Howes as the Player of the Week. Elizabeth Boyden and Matt Turcio were honored as the Super Y-League Players of the Week.
Chasing after a playoff berth, the Milwaukee Wave United earned two key victories on the week courtesy of Greg Howes, who scored four goals in a pair of wins over Calgary and Edmonton.
On Tuesday, Howes opened the week with the club’s lone goal in a 1-0 win in Calgary with a strike in the 49th minute on an assist from Todd Dusosky.
Two nights later with the score tied at two at home against Edmonton, Howes found the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner in the 80th minute and went on to score two more in the next seven minutes for a hat-trick on the night en route to a 6-2 victory.
U14 Spokane Shadow goalkeeper Elizabeth Boyden has had to step up to fill in for the club’s injured older goalkeeper and has led three teams (U14, U15, U16) to success in the Northwest. In a set of games four days apart, she twice played three games in a day, picking up five wins and four shutouts. She helped Spokane earn three wins against the Washington Crossfire and two against FC Portland, allowing just four goals total.
U15 Black Watch SC’s Matt Turcio tallied a hat-trick to lead the third-place club to a 5-0 win over the Rhode Island Stingrays.
