USL announces Week 2 honors

TAMPA, FL - United Soccer Leagues announced today the Teams of the Week for Week 2 of the season, honoring Minnesota's Jeff Matteo, Wilmington's Kenny Bundy and Orange County's Steve Patterson as the Players of the Week in the A-League, Pro Soccer League and Premier Development League, respectively.
USL also announced the A-League and PSL Teams of the Week.
Minnesota Thunder midfielder Jeff Matteo tallied a world-class goal and assist in leading the Minnesota Thunder to a 2-0 home opener win over the Calgary Mustangs at the Metrodome.
Forward Johnny Menyongar scored the first goal of the night on a picture-perfect through pass from Matteo in the 24th minute. Matteo, who played last season with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer, dribbled through four defenders before dishing off the winning assist.
Six minutes into the second half Matteo put the icing on the cake when he launched a 25-yard, bending free-kick into the upper right corner, cleanly beating Calgary goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel.
Just days after experiencing MISL playoff elimination with the Dallas Sidekicks, Kenny Bundy helped lead the Wilmington Hammerheads to a victory over local rival Charlotte Eagles Saturday night with a goal and an assist in the 3-2 win.
Three minutes after missing an excellent chance on goal, Bundy found the back of the net, heading a Brady Bryant throw-in inside the left post in the 35th minute.
Bundy then turned provider, lofting a cross through the box to Ryan Miller, who put his shot past Charlotte goalkeeper Chris McClellan from a difficult angle in the 61st minute.
Bundy helped lead the Carolina Dynamo to the regular season PSL title last year with three goals and five assists in 19 games.
With the loss of leading scorer Matthew Taylor to the Kansas City Wizards of MLS during the offseason, Orange County Blue Star brought in former A-League star striker Steve Patterson to fill the void.
Patterson picked up right where he left off in the A-League in 2000, scoring twice in Orange County's 2-0 victory on the road against the Nevada Wonders. Blue Star took a 2-0 lead to the locker room at halftime with Patterson's ninth and 36th minute strikes and held on for the win behind a 10-save performance by Tylor Reid in goal.
In four A-League seasons, Patterson scored 51 goals and had 22 assists. He played for the Colorado Foxes in 1997 before spending three seasons with the Orange County Zodiac and Wave.
