GREENWOOD, S.C. – Palmetto Football Club, Inc., South Carolina's only USL Premier Development League (PDL) franchise, announced today it has teamed-up with South Carolina United FC, South Carolina's largest youth soccer club with more than 4,600 players ages 4-19. Commencing with the 2013 season, the Palmetto Football Club's PDL team will compete across the Southeast and beyond as the SC United FC Bantams, donning new Under Armour uniforms over the course of their 16-match season which runs from May to July and features many of the top collegiate soccer players from the region including those from the University of South Carolina, Clemson University, Lander University and Wofford University.
"We are ecstatic to be teaming up with our state's only PDL franchise to fulfill our mission of providing a quality youth-to-adult soccer experience at every level of amateur play" says South Carolina United FC President Ron Tryon. "Whether it’s participation in one of our various youth programs, gaining experience in the US Soccer Development Academy program or now, as a member of our Super-20 team or our PDL team, a youth soccer player can literally develop his soccer skills within our own club from start to finish through college and, if fortunate enough, into the professional ranks."
Drawing on an immediate fan base consisting of SCUFC's 4,600 players, half of the squad's 2013 home matches will be played in Columbia and the remainder will be played at Lander University in Greenwood. According to Mark Riddle, President of Palmetto Football Club, "Our vision from the beginning of the PDL process has been to promote the highest level of amateur soccer in South Carolina. We desire to showcase the top players who played their youth soccer in the state or who currently represent any one of our great South Carolina colleges or universities. We feel that our relationship with South Carolina United FC will prove to be extremely beneficial and add great value and respect for our organization. They have built a tremendous youth club in South Carolina and we are excited to be associated with them. It's a natural fit."
