LUDLOW, Mass. – The Western Mass Pioneers will have no need to start the search for a new head coach as Federico Molinari has had his contract extended through the 2013 season.
“I am glad to be the head coach of the Pioneers for another season,” said Molinari. “We were very close again to making the playoffs and I am excited to build on what we had in the 2012 season.”
The Pioneers finished the 2012 campaign in third place in the PDL’s Northeast Division with a record of 6 wins, 4 losses and 6 ties. The most notable accomplishment of the season was the defense. The Pioneers were one of the top teams in the nation only conceding 11 goals while goalkeeper Warren Gross led the nation in shut-outs with nine.
“Our defense was something to be proud of and it is a good starting point for the 2013 season,” said General Manager Greg Kolodziey.
Another aspect to the organization is the success of the U-20 Pioneers squad. Under the direction of Dinis Gomes, the team finished the 2012 season with a 7-2-0 record, good for second place in the Super-20 League’s Northeast Division. The U20 Pioneers were recently ranked No.9 in the Super-20 League Men’s First 11. This ranking is based on both the club’s competitive and administrative performance throughout the season.
”I am glad to see the development of young players in this area. It will add stability to the program. Also, with the Western United youth organization merging with the Jr Pioneers this past season, will add more strength and talent to the pool of players,” said Molinari.
The Pioneers management will be heading to the annual USL meeting in late December in Clearwater, Fla to create the 2013 schedule and review new league procedures. Molinari can be reached via email at email@example.com.
