TAMPA, FL - United Soccer Leagues announced today the Team and Player of the Week honors for the A-League, USL Pro Select League, Premier Development League and W-League, honoring Montreal's Eduardo Sebrango, California's Enrique Tovar, Cape Cod's David Bulow and Charlotte's Deanna Kreidel as the Week 7 Players of the Week.
The Montreal Impact are in the midst of a six-game unbeaten streak since their season opening 1-0 loss in Charleston and picked up their latest two wins in a trip to western Canada this past weekend, where they downed the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 Friday and the Calgary Storm 4-0 Sunday.
Leading the way in the win over Calgary was forward and A-League Player of the Week Eduardo Sebrango, who contributed in all four scores with two goals and two assists. His six-point performance tied the club record for the most points in a game by an Impact player, set by Giuliano Oliviero, August 26, 1998.
Sebrango, the Impact's top scorer last season with 18 goals, set up goals by Mauro Biello (19th minute) and Sita-Taty Matondo (29th), before scoring twice at the 30th and 82nd minute. He is currently the Impact's leading scorer with seven points.
The USL Pro Select League's California Gold hit the road to face one of the hottest PDL teams in the 8-1-0 Fresno Fuego and came away 3-2 overtime victors courtesy of the play of midfielder and Player of the Week Enrique Tovar.
Tovar came off the bench five minutes into the second half and led the Gold to a 2-1 lead, scoring in the 75th minute on an assist from Kupano Low.
After a 90th minute Fresno goal sent the game to overtime tied 2-2, Tovar provided the game-winner five minutes into the extra frame on an assist from Ryan Stocking to propel California to 6-3-2 and a tie with the Utah Blitzz at the top of the table with 20 points.
The defending champion Cape Cod Crusaders continue to shine with an unbeaten mark of 4-0-2, registering two wins and a draw in play over the past week. Providing plenty of offense for the club in all three games was forward and PDL Player of the Week David Bulow, who tallied four goals combined in the three outings to earn the honor for the second time this season.
Bulow opened the week with a sixth minute tally on the road against the Rhode Island Stingrays in a match that would end in a 1-1 draw Tuesday night.
At home the following night, Bulow scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 76th minute to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead and ultimately the 2-1 victory over the visiting Vermont Voltage, who won the regular season division title last season.
Bulow capped the week off with a two-goal night at home against the Worcester Kings Saturday in a 3-0 victory. With the score level 1-1 at halftime, he scored twice in the second half, providing the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute and an insurance goal in the 88th.
Bulow was previously honored as Player of the Week in Week 4 for recording four goals and an assist in a 5-2 win over the Jersey Falcons.
With the 3-0-0 Hampton Roads Piranhas right on their heels, the Charlotte Lady Eagles continue to be perfect, winning their fourth and fifth games this week. Charlotte downed the Twisters in Greensboro, 5-0, Wednesday night and returned home to blank the Northern Virginia Majestics, 3-0, Saturday.
Leading the Charlotte defense is Deanna Kreidel, who was named Player of the Week. The 2002 W-League Defender of the Year is leading a defensive unit that has yet to allow a goal this season through five matches.
Kreidel has not missed a minute of play in all five games and has one assist. Last year, she played in 13 of the club's 14 games, leading the team to a division-low 15 goals against. The Duke University alum was honored in 2000 on both the All-League team and the W-2 championship tournament team when she led the Lady Eagles to the first of their three straight semifinal appearances. Charlotte fell to Springfield 2-1 in the championship. She was again honored on the All-Tournament Team in 2001 for leading Charlotte to the W-2 title.
