GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – F.C. New York of USL PRO is proud to announce that former Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) player Karsten Smith, who grew up playing with HBC, has signed a one-year contract pending USL and USSF approval. Smith, of Huntington Station, New York, attended Walt Whitman High School where he was team captain. He also earned All-Conference and All-County honors and served as captain of the Empire State Games team.
Smith attended American University in Washington D.C. and earned All Patriot League honors for three consecutive years. The past year he has been on trials with FC Lorient in France and Da Nang FC in Vietnam.
“Karsten is a local player we have been watching at the college level and he performed very well at our November trials,” said F.C. New York owner Jo-Ellen Treiber, a member of the Massapequa Soccer Club of LIJSL as a youth. “It will be great for young players in the area to see a local kid join the professional ranks.”
Smith signed his contract surrounded by well-wishers this weekend at the Long Island Junior Soccer League Convention. Board of Directors member Gregg Satzinger stopped by to help celebrate the signing with F.C. New York President Doug Petersen.
