PDL Team of the Week
Portland's Kawulok Player of the Week

USL New Release

June 16, 2010

United Soccer Leagues announced the PDL Team of the Week today, with Ryan Kawulok of the Portland Timbers U23s being named the Player of the Week. Kawulok led the Timbers to a 6-0 win against Yakima on June 12, recording the second hat trick in team history.

Kawulok’s offensive outburst continued Portland’s unbeaten start to the 2010 PDL season. While Kawulok demonstrated a superb scoring touch, the defender did plenty of defending in the match too, as Portland kept another clean sheet. Kawulok is part of a defensive unit which has not allowed a goal since May 15.

“Ryan has been consistent for us defensively all season,” Timbers U-23s Head Coach Jim Rilatt said. “This really was his first opportunity to express himself in and around goal, as he has primarily defends our opponent’s best scorers. He brings a physical presence to the game that has really helped us get out to the start that we are on this season.”

Kawulok was not the only player scoring in bunches last week, as Mark Heath Preston also recorded a hat trick for Rochester as the Thunder downed Springfield. Mike Kennedy of MPS Portland and Will Beague of Ottawa each found the score sheet twice.

The Team of the Week features three players who scored game winners for their teams. Kevin White put in the game winner for DFW in their win against West Texas, while Jordan Cyrus of Hampton Roads had the game winner against Carolina. The most notable game winner might have come from Michael Wamo of Houston, who gave the Leones their first win of the season.

Kitsap’s John Fishbaugher took up the role of playmaker last week, setting up both goals in his team’s 2-1 win. Mauro Fuzetti scored and drew a penalty as his Michigan’s Bucks overcame FC London. Christopher Karcz also scored a goal to seal the win for the Ironbound Express against Bermuda.

Between the posts, Larry Jackson had a superb match for Bradenton against Central Florida. Jackson kept a clean sheet and made numerous big saves in the win.
