USL New Release
June 10, 2010
United Soccer Leagues announced the W-League Team of the Week today, with Ashley Baker being named the Player of the Week. Baker, the standout goalkeeper for the Tampa Bay Hellenic, claimed the honor of Player of the Week after recording her second and third consecutive clean sheets in wins against Charlotte this past Friday and Saturday.

In the Hellenic’s two matches this past weekend, Baker faced 29 shots, made 13 saves and conceded no goals. She also saved a dramatic penalty in Saturday’s match.
"Ashley Baker has proven in the last week why she is regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the SEC and the English National Team program,” Tampa Bay Head Coach George Fotopoulos said. “Her shot stopping and dominance in the air were the keys to the Hellenic's success against Charlotte this past weekend. These same characteristics were shown even more so a week before as Ashley took on 30 shots from the WPS Atlanta Beat and held them to one goal."
The W-League Team of the Week is highlighted by a handful of other standout defensive performances. Tiana Brockway led the Pali Blues backline which conceded no shots against Santa Clarita. Sue Weber of the Long Island Rough Riders also led her defense to a clean sheet and was dangerous on offense as well. Santa Clarita’s Shannon Omahen put in a superb defensive effort, shackling the Pali Blues’ dangerous attackers.
Important goals were also scored in W-League last week by several players. Tampa Bay’s Tahnai Annis put in the game-winning goal in the Hellenic’s 1-0 win against Charlotte. Kara Cooper also tallied a game winner as Hampton Roads cruised by Northern Virginia. Andréanne Gagné went for the spectacular, as she scored an amazing free kick for Quebec and put in a solid defensive performance. Haley Siegel also notched a big goal for Washington in its win against New York.
Jessica Fuccello helped continue the New Jersey Wildcats’ offensive surge, combining with last week’s Team of the Week member, Kylee Rossi, to assist on each other’s goals. Fuccello’s goal won the match for the Wildcats.
Melissa Busque racked up multiple points last week for Ottawa, scoring twice and assisting on another in a win against Rochester. Forward Katie Ryan of the New Jersey Rangers also found the net twice in a win versus the North Jersey Valkyries.
