AUSTIN, TX -- The Austin Aztex announced that they will host the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer in a preseason friendly on Sunday, March 14 at Nelson Field. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale immediately by visiting www.austinaztex.com or by calling 512-335-8881.
Ticket prices are set at $20 for adults ages 16 and over and $15 for youth 15 years of age and younger. Children five and under are free. Group tickets good for both youth and adult are available for $15 for groups of 20 or more.
“We are delighted to be playing Houston again this season,” said Aztex head coach Adrian Heath. “Last year’s game against the Dynamo was one of the highlights of the year. We know we will be playing one of the favorites for the MLS title so it will be a great game for soccer. Fans in Austin can come and watch top level players, some of whom will be playing for the United States in the upcoming World Cup.”
The 2006 and 2007 MLS Champion Dynamo bring a star-studded roster to town including US World Cup star Brian Ching, MLS All-Star Pat Onstad, and MLS All-Star Geoff Cameron. The Dynamo qualified for the 2009 playoffs with a 13-8-9 record, good for second place in the Western Conference. Beating the Seattle Sounders FC in the first round of the playoffs, the Dynamo eventually bowed out of the playoffs to the Western Conference Champion Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Aztex will come into the match with what will be a revamped roster from the 2009 season. Fans will see familiar faces such as Yordany Alvarez, Miguel Gallardo, Eddie Johnson, and Sullivan Silva take the field for the Aztex with the addition of newcomer Lawrence Olum and several other new players which will be announced over the coming weeks. The Aztex will open its official training camp on March 1.
This match will take place at Nelson Field as the Aztex’s new home in 2010, House Park located at 15th and Lamar, is still undergoing construction of the locker rooms.
