USL News Release

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

TAMPA – United Soccer Leagues announced today the W-League Team of the Week for the seventh week of women's competition, honoring Hudson Valley forward Angelika Johansson as Player of the Week for her one goal, one assist performance in the Lady Blues 2-1 come from behind victory over Boston, Saturday night.

Johansson assisted on Whitney Palmer’s equalizer in the 8th minute before scoring the winner in the 79th, keeping Quickstrike at a perfect 4-0-0 record and atop the Northeast Division standings. Johansson has seven goals and 19 points, leading the W-League in both categories after only four matches played.

"Angelika scored the game winner in a hard-fought, physical game where both teams could have won," said Hudson Valley head coach Jesse Kolmel.

Atlanta Silverbacks midfielder Megan Tomlinson scored in the 21st and 84th minutes and dictated the play in midfield in the side’s 3-0 rout of the Cary Lady Clarets on Friday night. The victory keeps the Silverbacks with a perfect 4-0-0 record and atop the Atlantic Division with 12 points.

"Megan made the biggest impact on the match," said Silverbacks General Manager, Laura Fedrigo. "Her first goal put the team more at ease and she continued to dominate the midfield throughout the match."

Further north, Northern Virginia defender Stephani Hylton helped the Majestics to their first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over Richmond on Sunday. Hylton entered the match in the 30th minute and stepped up to strike the free kick that would level the score in the 61st.

"Stephanie hit a beautiful free kick from 40 yards out and almost scored off a full volley later in the match," said Northern Virginia Head Coach, Jac Cicala.
