Islanders add Mediate, McClellan
Club also re-signs Noel for 2009

BAYAMON, PR -- The Puerto Rico Islanders announced today that they have come to an agreement with midfielder Domenic Mediate (pending league approval) and goalkeeper Chris McClellan for the 2009 season. Forward Fabrice Noel will return to the Islanders for 2009 as well.

Mediate joins Puerto Rico from DC (Tony Quinn / Getty)Mediate is a speedy midfielder who is very good in both going on the attack as well as the defensive side of the field. He played collegiate soccer for the University of Maryland Terrapins. During his time there, Domenic scored 27 goals and 17 assists while being selected to the All-ACC First Team as well.

Mediate will bring four years of Major League Soccer experience to the Islanders. He was selected in the 2005 MLS Superdraft by the Columbus Crew. After 11 games and one goal as a rookie with the Crew, he was acquired by DC United, where he played for the next three seasons. He played 26 games with DC United, four of them starts as a midfielder and defender.

Goalkeeper Chris McClellan started his professional career with the Charlotte Eagles of the USL Second Division. In 2005, he led his team to the USL-2 Championship. His actions during that season earned him the USL-2 Goalkeeper of the Year award. In 2007, he signed with the Carolina RailHawks. After 30 games started in goal for the RailHawks in 2008, McClellan joins the Puerto Rico Islanders for the 2009 season.

Haitian forward Fabrice Noel will return to the Islanders for his third consecutive season with the squad. The 23 year old Haiti international returns for 2009 after having scored six goals in the 2008 USL-1 season and two more in the CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage.

The Puerto Rico Islanders are currently in Austin, Texas where they will play a friendly match against Austin Aztex FC, USL-1's new franchise for the 2009 season. This game will be the last prepatory match for the Islanders before departing to Mexico to face Cruz Azul in the return leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal. Puerto Rico currently leads the series 2-0.
