SILVER SPRING, MD -- Real Maryland will host Club Deportivo Aguila in an international friendly match at Richard Montgomery High School’s Lester Stadium on Saturday, April 11th at 5 pm. 

Aguila is currently mid-table (3-3-3) in the 2009 Clausura.Club Deportivo Águila is one of the most popular and most prestigious football clubs in El Salvador. They play among the best teams of Central America, and their greatest achievement was capturing the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 1976, making them the best club in North America at one point and one of only three teams from the nation to accomplish the feat.

Originally formed by a group of young people on February 15, 1926 in San Miguel, El Salvador, the club has seen success recently domestic competition, finishing first in the regular season of the 2008 Apertura and winning both the regular season and playoff championships in the 2006 Clausura. Since its founding, C.D. Aguila has won 14 Primera Division titles, one Copa Presidente title and one CONCACAF Champion’s Cup title. Aguila is currently mid-table (3-3-3) in the 2009 Clausura.

“C.D. Aguila is a strong team with a great history,” says Real Marylad FC’s President Victor Moran. “We hope to play a good game while entertaining the fans.”

Last year, Real Maryland FC took on fellow Salvadoran side and reigning champion L.A. Firpo, losing 2-0 in a hard fought match. The club hopes to host more international exhibition matches later this summer and in the future.
