LAREDO, TX -- A Vaswani Soccer Venture, LLC, parent company of the Laredo Heat Soccer Club, announced today two spectacular soccer matches for the second week in July. On Wednesday, July 9, 2008, the 2007 PDL Champion Laredo Heat will host the Mexican Under 20 Men’s National Team in the first of two games for Mexican side. And on Friday, July 11th the Mexican U-20’s will take on the United States Under 20 Men’s National Team in the premier match of the week.
Both games will be played at the Heat’s new soccer venue, the Texas A&M International University Soccer Complex located at the corner of Loop 20 and University Boulevard. Kick-off for both matches is set for 8:00 PM.
“Playing Mexico is always a good opportunity to prepare ourselves for CONCACAF Qualifying,” said U.S. Under 20 Men’s National Team Head Coach Thomas Rongen. “At this point in the cycle, it will be good to come together for a few days and play against a quality opponent to really test ourselves.”
Heat Owner, President and CEO Shashi Vaswani, also stated “For our Heat players, playing versus the Mexican U-20’s after the first half of the season will also give them a fantastic challenge to finish up the PDL campaign, and if we are in the hunt for the playoffs at that time, also give us a push to start turning it up at the right time”.
“As far as the Mexican Under 20 and USA Under 20 match, what can I say outside from wow. What a great opportunity for soccer fans to come out and see the future stars for these two countries and it would be remiss not to mention that the possibility exists that several of these players will more than likely represent their country in the U-20 World Cup in Egypt next year or in the World Cup in 2010 or 2014,” added Vaswani.
Both sides will arrive in Laredo early in the week to prepare for the encounters, and complete team rosters will be named at a later date. However, in an added bonus for fans of the Laredo Heat, Laredo’s own Felix Garcia will be representing not only the Heat and his hometown, but the United States as he will be playing for Coach Rongen and the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team in his own back yard versus Mexico’s Under 20 Men’s National Team.
This event and opportunity to support our very own homegrown product will be a first for Laredo and all fans, not just soccer fans, should come out and show their support for this young man as he continues his rise in the soccer ranks.
