TAMPA, FL – The Second Round of the US Open Cup is all set for June 24 with the exception of one team that is yet to be determined due to a postponed First Round affair. In the week off from the US Open Cup, next Tuesday, June 17 will feature a Nutrilite Canadian Championship match between Vancouver and Montreal.
The eight US Open Cup Second Round contests will be hosted by two USL Second Division clubs and six USL First Division sides to determine who will advance to a Third Round date with an opponent from Major League Soccer.
While the First Round was underway Tuesday night, the final MLS entrant was determined. The four-time Chicago Fire escaped missing the tournament with a thrilling 3-2 victory at home against the Columbus Crew in a play-in match. The Kansas City Wizards qualified the previous Wednesday via penalties after playing to a 2-2 draw against Colorado. The duo previously qualified DC United, Chivas USA, Houston Dynamo, New England Revolution, FC Dallas and New York Red Bulls.

Tuesday night’s US Open Cup First Round action kicked off a series of five consecutive Tournament Tuesdays that will feature championship tournament action.
The Nutrilite Canadian Championship picks things up on June 17 with the Impact playing host to their USL-1 rival Vancouver in the second game of the six-match round-robin series that also includes Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC. In addition to crowning a national champion, the winner of the event advances to the CONCACAF Champions League this fall.
The US Open Cup Second Round continues the string on June 24 followed by a double dose of tournament action July 1 when the US Open Cup Third Round and the fourth Canadian Championship match will be played. The US Open Cup Quarterfinals wrap up the run of five straight Tournament Tuesdays July 8.
The US Open Cup takes a break until the Semifinals August 12 and the Championship August 26, but the Canadian Championship continues with the sixth and final match of the event Tuesday, July 22. The additional Canadian Champion matches will be on Wednesdays (June 25 and July 9).
