TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced today the USL on Fox Soccer Channel schedule for the 2008 season. The schedule, comprised of 28 games in all, features all four senior league championship games along with 22 regular season USL-1 matches and three USL-1 postseason fixtures.
The schedule opens with the Montreal Impact visiting the Atlanta Silverbacks on April 25 followed by a championship rematch between the Silverbacks and the champion Seattle Sounders May 2, only this time in Atlanta. The new Saputo Stadium will make its Fox Soccer Channel debut May 30 when Montreal plays host to the Portland Timbers.
August will be the unofficial Month of Championships with three title games in a four-week span, beginning with the crowning of the top women’s team in North America at the W-League Championship on Sunday, August 3. The Premier Development League Championship will be decided the following weekend on Saturday, August 9 and the USL Second Division title will be up for grabs Saturday, August 23.
Postseason action on FSC will resume after four more weeks of USL-1 regular season fixtures when a Second Leg match from one of the USL-1 Quarterfinals will air on Sunday, September 28. A Semifinal Second Leg affair will be featured the following week on Sunday, October 5 with the USL First Division Championship wrapping up the schedule on Saturday, October 11.
USL Breakaway, the behind-the-scenes feature show that debuted in 2006, will return for a third consecutive season with three more episodes airing in the latter portion of the schedule – dates still to be determined.
For the 16th consecutive year, USL will utilize the services of Santa Barbara-based Cultural Videos and Sports and its owner/producer David Bolton.
The full USL First Division, USL Second Division and W-League regular season schedules are expected to be announced within the coming 7-10 days.
