CARY, NC -- The Carolina RailHawks announced today the signing of 2007 USL-2 points leader Jacob Coggins pending US Soccer approval. This past season Coggins led the Charlotte Eagles and USL-2 in goals, points and shots and was second in assists.
“I’m really excited to play for a USL-1 team after being in Charlotte for eight years,” said Jacob Coggins. “Each of those years was wonderful but I am excited to start a new adventure in a brand new environment with some old friends like Chris McClellan and Caleb Norkus.”
A veteran in USL, Jacob Coggins spent most of his professional career playing for the Charlotte Eagles, leading them to the USL-2 championship game in 2005, where they defeated the Western Mass Pioneers, and in 2006.
He was named League MVP in 2004 and 2005, seasons in which he also led the USL-2 in goals scored. In 2007 he led the USL Second Division in goals, shots and points, scoring twelve goals and recording seven assists for a total of 31 points.
Coggins should add scoring power to the Carolina RailHawks offense and, with newcomer Dan Antoniuk, the RailHawks have acquired the 2007 points leaders for both USL-1 and USL-2.
“Jacob’s accolades speak for themselves,” said RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer. “You always look for a quality player when you bring somebody new into a team, but he’s also a great person off the field and he will fit in very well as another piece of the puzzle that will take us to the championship.”
