USL News Release
Thursday, June 28, 2007
TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL Premier Development League and W-League Teams of the Week for the 10th week of the USL season, honoring Central Florida’s Alejandro Taylor and Ottawa’s Kelly Parker as the Players of the Week, respectively.
It’s been quite a few weeks as 17-year-old Alejandro ‘Tony’ Taylor got his first taste of USL soccer. The young striker made his debut with the Central Florida Kraze over the weekend and led the club to a pair of wins to keep the club atop the Southeast Division with several teams nipping at their heels.
Trailing 2-0 to the 5-3-2 Bradenton Academics Friday when he came off the bench for his debut in the 40th minute, Taylor helped spark an outstanding rally. Sergei Raad and Tanner Wolfe leveled the score before Taylor started to find the back of the net himself fin the 53rd minute with what stood for the game-winner. He went on to tally again in the 66th and completed a hat-tick in the 86th.
Two nights later at Palm Beach Taylor got his first start and on the half-hour mark struck for the opening goal. Palm Beach would tie five minutes later and Wolfe reinstated the lead in the 65th. In the 85th Taylor stepped to the spot for a penalty and although his attempt would be saved, he buried the rebound to put the match away to move the Kraze to 8-2-0.
The teenage striker was introduced to USL less than two weeks prior when he was a member of the Lynch’s Irish Pub team out of Jacksonville that qualified out of the USASA and fell 2-0 in Charlotte to the 2005 USL Second Division champion Eagles in the First Round of the US Open Cup on June 13.
The Fury proved their supremacy in division the Lady Lynx their second loss of the season, both from Ottawa. Midfielder and former league MVP Kelly Parker stepped to the forefront once against as she guided the club to the 4-1 victory Saturday.
After an early sixth minute strike from Adrienne Ruhe Lischke left the host Fury trailing, Parker and Annie Hamel combined on either side of the half to take the lead. Parker set up Hamel for the equalizer in the 44th with Hamel returning the favor a minute into the second stanza. Anna Laue made it 3-1 in the 68th and the Hamel to Park connection put the match out of reach at 4-1 in the 70th.
Although she did not find herself on the scoring summary the following night against Rochester, Parker helped lead the Fury to a 3-0 victory on three strikes from Jodie Taylor.
The Fury now sit in full command of the Northern Division with a record of 7-0-0 and are in control of their destiny for the conference regular season title with only the New Jersey Wildcats (5-0-3) remaining as the lone unbeaten in the Northeast Division.
