USL News Release
Tuesday, June 5, 2007
TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL First Division and USL Second Division Teams of the Week for the seventh week of the season, honoring Rochester’s Chase Harrison and Harrisburg’s Matt Tanzini as the Players of the Week, respectively.
The Rochester Rhinos picked up four important points on their tropical road trip to Miami and Puerto Rico on the weekend with a 1-0 win in Miami Friday and a come-from-behind 1-1 draw in Puerto Rico Sunday behind the goalkeeping of Chase Harrison.
On a rain-soaked field on a night when the rain never let up and poured consistently throughout the match, the young keeper Harrison was completely unphased by the conditions, making brilliant save one after another. He finished with nine saves on the night and a clean sheet as Mike Ambersley’s goal off a rebounded save on Pat Hannigan on the other end proved the difference.
Two nights later in Puerto Rico, Harrison was called upon to keep the Rhinos in the match after an early goal from an unmarked Petter Villegas 15 minutes in left Rochester trailing. He did just that, posting five saves, including a powerful shot from Melvin Tarley, as his side took control of the match in the latter stages and scored the equalizer through Hamed Diallo in the 80th to register the draw and point.
The night did not start off too well for Matt Tanzini, celebrating his 31st birthday with a spot on the bench, but he proved the hero in the second half as he guided the home side from a 2-0 halftime deficit against the unbeaten Cleveland City Stars to a 2-2 draw.
The halftime changed provided dividends in a four-minute span 20 minutes into the second stanza when Tanzini took on the role of reviver with his fast-paced touch past a Stars defender, followed up with a blasted left-footed, perfectly placed ball into the far corner of Cleveland’s goal.
It took only another four minutes for the Islanders to mount their next attack. A free kick just outside the eighteen gave the man they call Taz the opportunity to deliver his second strike of the night, this time by way of a lightning bolt which glanced off the visitor’s wall and into the side netting of the goal.
