Weekly Pro Honors announced Cameron and Ssejjemba named Players of the Week
USL News Release
Monday, April 30, 2007
TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL First Division and USL Second Division Teams of the Week for the second week of the season, honoring Miami’s Sean Cameron and Richmond’s Robert Ssejjemba as the Players of the Week, respectively.
Rookie Sean Cameron is off to a good start as a replacement for Brazilian World Cup legend Romario. The Rutgers product led his club to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Seattle Sounders Friday night with a goal and assist.
Miami drew first blood in the 13th minute when Sean Cameron stole a pass in the midfield and jetted to the top of the 18 yard box where he unleashed a left footed drive, beating Sounders keeper Chris Eylander high and to the right.
The teams exchanged attacking opportunities through the first half with Cameron generating the majority of Miami’s chances.
Miami kept on the front foot, taking the game to the Sounders defense and finding a reward in the 73rd minute when Cameron worked the ball into the 18 yard box on the right hand side of the field before cutting it back to Luchi Gonzalez, who converted to take the score to 3-2 in favor of the South Florida side.
The scoring race between the last two USL Second Division Scoring Champions is officially on with Charlotte’s Jacob Coggins adding a third goal this week and defending league MVP and Scoring Champion Robert Ssejjemba hitting for two this week after being held scoreless in the opener.
The Kickers opened the scoring in the 21st minute when midfielder Mike Burke played the ball to a streaking Ssejjemba. On a breakaway, Ssejjemba challenged Phantoms goalkeeper Brian Levey, one on one, and slid a right-footed shot from the penalty spot into the open net.
Ssejjemba began the second half with the third tally of the night in the 52nd minute when Burke chipped the ball to him deep inside the six-yard box. Levey attempted to smother the ball but Ssejjemba slipped it just underneath, into the back of the net.
