PLAINVIEW, NY -- The Long Island Rough Riders have announced the appointment of Dan Fisher as the Rough Riders Men’s Head Coach for the 2007 season with former men's coach Flavio Ferri moving to the role of General Manager.

“Dan’s vast coaching experience in the United Soccer Leagues makes him the most qualified for the position,” said Peter Zaratin, Rough Riders President. “His insight will be helpful during the rebuilding phase of our organization.”

During the 2006 season, Fisher was the assistant to Flavio Ferri while the Rough Riders competed in the USL Second Division. Before accepting the assistant coaching job last year with the Rough Riders, Fisher led the Brooklyn Knights from 2003 to 2005 where he compiled a record of 29-15-1.

Although the Rough Riders compiled a 3-12-5 record last season, the team will look to build upon key veteran players from the 2006 season, while adding new players to the roster. “I am looking for impact players who can help lead the Rough Riders team to a national championship,” said Dan Fisher.

“The goal of the Rough Riders franchise is simple yet constant,” said Ferri. “Our goal is to win while entertaining our fans through quality soccer.”

After leading the team as the Rough Riders Head Coach in 2006, Ferri will take on the role as the General Manager for the Rough Riders organization.

“The results from last season were not what we had hoped for,” said Zaratin. “Nevertheless, Flavio did an excellent job building a solid foundation for future player and team success.”

Ferri’s responsibilities will include working with the Rough Riders Men’s and Women’s teams while overseeing the growing endeavors of the Junior Rough Riders Youth Program.

“I am excited for the opportunity and I look forward to the challenges of my new position,” said Mr. Ferri.

While Fisher takes over the coaching responsibilities, Ferri will work diligently to start the interview process of selecting a head coach for the inaugural Rough Riders Women’s Team, which will participate in the USL W-League.
