United Soccer Leagues mourns the loss of a great pioneer for soccer in the United States in the passing of Lamar Hunt Wednesday evening and send the condolences of its staff to his family.

"American sport, let alone soccer, has lost a one-of-a-kind man - a trailblazer, if there ever was one. More importantly, we have lost a giant of a human being, the humblest rich guy you could ever meet. My life is better for the time I spent  with him." -- Francisco Marcos, USL Founder and President. Marcos was Vice President of the North American Soccer League’s Dallas Tornado in 1978/80, which Hunt owned, and the Tampa Bay Rowdies, which merged with the Tornado in 1982
