CHARLESTON, SC -- Oktoberfest on Daniel Island raised $2,461 for Live 5 News's 2004 Debi's Kids campaign.  The event was held on Saturday, October 2 with $1 from every ticket purchased to the event donated to the charity.

Children 12 and under were admitted free; over 600 children attended the festival.  This was the first year that the event has been held.  Oktoberfest will return to Blackbaud Stadium in October 2005.

Charleston Battery President Nigel Cooper,

"We are very pleased with the way Oktoberfest turned out and are excited to donate this money to Debi's Kids campaign.  We hadn't anticipated such a large attendance on Saturday and as a result we were caught off-guard in some areas.  Next year we will be prepared for larger crowds and Oktoberfest will be back, bigger and even better."

The one-day festival featured live German Oompah bands, authentic German beers and food; other activities included barrel races and three-legged races and dancing with chicken dance, polka and waltzing.  Children's events included mini-soccer games on the stadium field, a Mountain Wall and Slide, Human Foosball, Jump Castle, a Hot-Shot Power-Kick game and face painting.

Oktoberfest on Daniel Island was presented in part by T-Bonz, Sticky Fingers, Live 5 News, the City Paper, the Daniel Island News, Coast 102.5 and the Charleston Battery.
