MENTORING THE MENACE >>
Thursday, July 19, 2007
Last weekend the Menace and I continued to hang on to our chances at post season appearances. Friday and Saturday nights were both must wins for us, as every game is at this point.
Friday’s match went well we scored three goals in the first half. This seemed to break down Springfield. We had a solid overall performance as a team, winning 8-0 was very significant and because of that big win, I thought it made the Saturday’s match even harder.
We knew that Springfield was going to play with their pride on Saturday night and it took us some time to find our rhythm in the beginning of the match. We scored two goals right before the half ended.
This helped us to settle down a little bit. Early in the second half the Demize scored which made the game more interesting.
They felt that they had a chance to succeed and take away our chances of making the playoffs. I was happy with the way our team responded to this. I was pleased when we scored a goal with 10 minutes left. This gave us a more comfortable lead and some confidence in our ability to close this match.
Even though the win wasn’t very pretty, we still found a way to get three points. This is what we didn’t do the first part of the season. We dropped most of the games that were closed.
It seems like we are peaking at the right time and I hope we can all prove ourselves in Thunder Bay. This will be a true test of our character as a team and our gamesmanship. We are leaving for Thunder Bay early (Thursday) morning.
I am anxious for the trip and looking forward to another weekend of soccer with this team.
