Victoria unveils logo for 2009 launch

Victoria Highlanders News Release

Thursday, February 28, 2008

VICTORIA, BC -- The future expansion Victoria Highlanders FC are pleased to announce the release of the club's colors and team logo as they continue their preparation for play in the USL Premier Development League in April 2009.

Highlander General Manager Drew Finerty explains the design as "the original concept of owner Alex Campbell Jr., designed and produced by Brittany Markle (of Porthole Solutions)."

"The logo was created to represent Campbell's heritage and passion for soccer, with a "V" border symbolizing Victoria, along with the mountains of BC and maple leaf of Canada in a westcoast color combination of green, blue and silver with a black accent. The words Victoria Highlanders FC are in a Celtic font between the V and the maple leaf/mountain border. The Highlander Footballer image depicts the identity the club expects to establish for their on-field product. It will be a great image to work with, as we start to brand our club and build a fan base in soccer-crazy Victoria."

In addition to the logo announcement, Finerty also notes the marketing team, along with the mascot, will be out in the community at youth tournaments over the next several weeks starting this Sunday at Prospect Lake from 10am to 2pm. Their group will be providing season ticket information, selling Highlander merchandise, answering questions and staging a contest to win a Highlander FC Basket o' Goodies, including a pair of season tickets, a team jersey, merchandise and other suprises.

As for the search for a head coach, Finerty says "I have been impressed with the level of interest and the quality of candidates to date and I expect to finish the first round of interviews by next week after speaking to more than a dozen interested coaches. Once that is done, Alex and I will interview the short list of (4-6) candidates and likely have the key figure in the build-out of our team in place by the end of the March. We would like to start evaluating players in late spring, with the idea of holding a 'summer pool' training camp, followed by some exhibition games in July or early August."
