KALAMAZOO, MI – TKO Premier Soccer Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan officially unveiled the name and logo of its expansion Premier Development League and W-League teams. The Kalamazoo Outrage will take the field in the summer of 2008.

The Kalamazoo Outrage name was one of two finalists that were selected from over 100 entries to the “Name the PDL and W-League Contest” that was held last spring. A vote was held on the TKO Premier Soccer website, and The Kalamazoo Outrage received the most votes.

The winning name was submitted by 14-year old Alyssa Davison of Mattawan. Alyssa said that she pick the name because it sounded “intimidating and cool,” She stated, “It would be really neat to someday be able to play on a team that you named.” As winner of the contest, Alyssa will receive a family season ticket for 2008, a team jersey, and a team gear package.

“It was nice to get the community involved in the naming of these soccer teams,” said TKO President Doug Hammerberg. “When it comes down to it, these are community soccer teams, and we felt that it was imperative that the community have a voice in naming them.”

The idea for the Kalamazoo Outrage logo was developed over several months in collaboration with a University of Michigan-bound artist and a local web designer. The club name TKO has been undefined since the inception of the club and we wanted the Outrage logo to maintain some of the same mysteriousness.

Simon Borst sketched the original design loosely basing it on a Raptor.

“When we first started considering logos and design concepts we wanted to represent more of an emotion instead of an object or mascot. We wanted simple, different. In the beginning several attempts and ideas were presented. None of it seemed right. Our patience paid off. We are very pleased with the result and have had a lot of positive feedback. Simon has held true to TKO. The creature depicted in the logo is ambiguous, without a true definition."

The color and style of the Kalamazoo Outrage logos also match the new TKO club logo in design.
