The A-League season consists of 28 matches with the top two teams from each division advancing to the playoffs, meaning only eight of 19 teams will see postseason action.

With fewer spots available and the continued increase in the quality of teams on the field, the 2003 season will be a hotly contested affair. Every game will count, especially at the close of the season when there should be some outstanding races for the right to move onto the postseason.
