As Senior Director of Franchise Development, Weibe will guide the USL expansion and development efforts in North America. In addition, he will play an active role with USL Founder and President, Francisco Marcos, on the League’s international partnerships.
From June of 1999 to January of 2006, Weibe was instrumental in the creation and development of the two USL youth divisions, the USL Super Y-League and the USL Super-20 League. As Director of Super Y-League North American Operations and Development, he played a key part in innovating the youth player development system in the United States and Canada. Weibe was responsible for connecting youth players with the professional game and creating a player development platform for elite players to extend their abilities to the highest-levels of the sport within their playing career.
During 2003, Weibe served as the developer of the country’s new Olympic Development Program, providing a national scouting system to identify players to US National Team Programs. This program in conjunction with the Super Y-League has provided new resources to US National Team Coaching Staff, and now major international clubs to better identify players. Both the Super Y-League and Super-20 League have been a key element in the technical development of the sport in the U.S. and Canada for clubs, players, and coaches.
From January 2006 to December of 2007, Weibe served in the role of Managing Director of Club Development and Communications, where he oversaw various aspects of franchise development, expansion, and oversaw the strategic communications of USL.
Weibe’s career path has included a wide variety of soccer management that spans over 17 years of experience; including overseeing tournaments and events, referee assignment, coaching, directing elite player camps, and United Soccer Leagues. From 2002-2006, Weibe served on the Board of Directors for the United States Soccer Federation, the governing body of the sport in the United States. He is currently active with US Soccer’s Youth Council Task Force, serves on various sub committees for the US Soccer Technical Committee, and is an active member on US Soccer’s Professional Council.
Before coming to USL, Weibe was a standout student and soccer player at Bethany College (WV) from 1995 to 1999, where he majored in Sport Management. In 1999, he received the Ernest L. and Dorothy Miller Korb Entrepreneurial Spirit Award, which is bestowed to the student who best displays entrepreneurial spirit and honors at the institution. Throughout his collegiate playing career, Weibe was four-time All-Conference defender, 1996 Player of the Year, captain of the squad, and led the Bison to a top-twenty ranking throughout his four years. He is currently a candidate to receive his MBA in Sport Business from Saint Leo University in 2009.
Weibe is a native of Severna Park, Maryland. He and his wife, Lauren, and two daughters reside in the Tampa Bay area. Outside USL, Weibe is an avid fan of the game, remains active on the soccer field, and enjoys playing golf in his spare time.
