This event, debuting December 17 – 20, will join premier amateur prospects with the top coaches in the United States and abroad. In an effort to represent the scope of the talent converging at this event, USL contacted several players scheduled to attend the combine.
Freddie Moojen – Premier Development League MVP, Scoring Champion
Guillermo Guadarrama – 2005 All-American, Campbell University
Tyler Baldock – 2005 Division II All-American Goalkeeper
USL: As one of the top collegiate players in the country, what opportunities does the 2006 USL Player Showcase offer you?
Moojen: This event is the perfect opportunity for me to demonstrate my ability to a lot of coaches. It is an advantage to be to be seen by as many teams as possible. Everyone I ask has said good things about the outlook of this event. It will be a good time and it will open some new doors for me.
USL: How difficult is it to get a professional contract in the United States?
Guadarrama: I would say it is challenging to catch on with a professional team in this country but you have to just work hard and keep playing. This event provides additional exposure for players in my position. I may pursue a professional career in Mexico but every team that can see what I have to offer at this event is another opportunity for me.
USL: What opportunities does the USL Men’s Player Showcase open to you?
Baldock: This is a great opportunity for me to get my name out there. I want to extend my career beyond college and as a Division II player you have put up incredible numbers to be noticed. I have been trying for the past two seasons and I thought I have been pretty successful at it but I have yet to see any scouts at a Carson-Newman game. I am sure I can play at the next level if given the right opportunity.
USL: What are your plans for a professional playing career after this college season?
Moojen: I am not concerned so much with where I play. I just want to play professional soccer. I had an opportunity to play in Germany last season. I chose to stay here and get my degree and play one more season in the PDL.
